Victorian 2013 road toll.

The state government have commented that at 242, road fatalities in Victoria during calendar year 2013 are the least recorded per annum since 1924! My own childhood memories of the late 30s and war years of the 40s give me the feeling there were not that many motor vehicles on the roads even then... so, one wonders what was killing people in traffic-related accidents back in the early 20s?! Rampant horse and cart drivers?

Whatever, 242 fatalities still generates an awful lot of grief among relatives, friends and neighbours. No room for congratulations on the 2013 achievement, that's for sure.
