Roads?

If memory serves me correctly... Mr. Rabbit was rather keen on Roads and the building thereof(?)

Tie loyalty?

This was one of yesterday's doodles on a very old wacom. After a quite tiring day taking care of other routine activities, I couldn't be bothered processing it to out-put stage last night.

Better late than never?

Sunday Strips

More I.T. adventures between a rock and a hard place.

Angry Bird?

A bit of idle doodling last night after a busy day of home maintenance and mowing lawns etc. The weather was absolutely fabulous after weeks of 'brass monkey' stuff... too good to waste indoors cartooning.

Today is a carbon copy... so off for a walk as soon as this lot is posted.

Friday 'forget-me-nots'

In its transition from newspaper to glossy magazine, TravelWeek had adopted full colour illos by 1993 when I returned to the masthead from working with various other Titles in the Isaacson publishing stable. Whilst my Op-ed cartoons and caricatures of travel industry notables were coloured, for a time they continued to use B & W pocket cartoons to illustrate news stories.

Here is one which accompanied a story boosting tourist traffic to Western Australia. The gag would probably apply equally to this week-end's AFL fixtures?

Gas Auto?

VW in even greater home-made trouble than they were in June 2013 when I first trotted out this caricatured logo in a blog piece? This week has been in some disarray because of multiple medical check-up appointments... so I'm glad to be able to comment on their current woes using material basically put together to mark an earlier 'difficulty'.

Canning by-election...

All sorts of outcomes, emotions, political messages and gravity of meaning are being attached to the result of today's federal by-election in W.A. Had it not been for the so-called political drama which unfolded in Canberra earlier this week... hardly anybody but the good burghers of Canning would've known there was an election in progress.

Hysteria?

Abortive Abbott

The damaging winds predicted for Melbourne overnight failed to materialize.

Instead, there was just an enormous sigh of relief in the aftermath of political developments in Canberra.

Basil strikes again!

Last week marked the 40th anniversary of the TV comedy Fawlty Towers. At the height of the show's popularity (1970s/80s), I was asked to illustrate an opinion piece in a Health industry magazine,  I can't
remember the detail but broadly speaking the management of a particular hospital was likened to the administration of John Cleeses' fictional guest house.

I did the drawing with a black Artline 200 usually reserved for reproduction on glossy stock. The illo was published in B&W with a hand-lettered caption... but for this outing I have type-set the same caption to balance the new space. The pale yellow balloon was added simply to highlight the text.

Offloads?

Rumours suggest the government is on the cusp of reshuffling up-front seating arrangements in a belated effort to restore balance and air-worthiness to the ship of state?

The Lion

This is something I did circa 1980s during a short-lived fling with using chinagraph pencils as a cartooning implement. I had discovered them in completing a commission to illustrate an audio-visual presentation using acetate with drawings on the surface of the material and colours on the reverse (ala animated films of the time).

This sketch emerged from a practice session and has been retained because it reminds me what can be achieved in seconds when almost everything goes right in transferring an idea from brain to paper.

James Strong

This is a caricature 'rough' circa mid-1990s of the well-known business executive who, among many other roles, was CEO of Australian Airlines (formerly TAA) during the late 1980s. He later held the same position with Qantas (1993-2001) after the two carriers were merged.

From his days with the domestic airline, he always wore bow-ties which became a sort of trade-mark nick-named the 'propeller'. Mr, Strong passed away during 2013.

Fear Monkey

A pugnacious political animal normally caged as a restraint measure ... but dangerous when released as a distraction from periods of administrative stress.

Ratty times?

This is the result of scribbling with a very old Wacom tablet attached to an equally elder Mac G4 circa 2001. Still works pretty good... so retirement put on the back-burner yet again.

Descent

If the government is heading for defeat at the next election, it wont be down to the media or any uneasy carping by members of the coalition itself. It will be down to the sheer lack of effective leadership and  governance displayed over the past 2 years in office by the people occupying positions of power on the treasury benches.
